The Galaxy SL, also known as the i9003, is the less known little brother of the famous flagship phone of Samsung: the original Galaxy S. Though met with less success as the first galaxy S unit, this beefier sibling does not lose out in terms of specs.
The first thing to notice would be the real estate of a touch screen mobile phone: the screen. The screen is actually one of the few key differences of the SL from the original S. It is also where it got the “L” of its name. L would stand for LCD. Compared to the first unit, this phone comes with an LCD display rather than the Amoled display of the S.
You might think then that the screen quality would be below par but that is where you make a mistake. The LCD screen is bright, sharp and beautiful. In fact, it is the same LCD screen technology used in Samsung’s famous TV panels. It did not have that familiar problem with Amoled screens of the color being a bit oversaturated making the device more appealing for some.
One other difference is the processor used. It is of a newer model compared to the S but still clocked at 1ghz. From afar, one would not notice immediately the difference of these devices as they are externally almost exactly alike. The only difference is that the SL is slightly larger and slightly heavier than the first but still not sacrificing build quality despite the smaller size.
Other than the said facts, the Galaxy SL aka i9003 is quite similar in power and performance as the S with a lower price and higher availability due to the fact that the Galaxy S is now currently no longer in production. This makes for an ideal phone for those looking at a high end model for a lower price point.
The Galaxy S might not be in production but it still can be purchased at Amazon:
